Skyscraper 2.0 Alpha 8 released
« on: February 28, 2013, 12:44:40 AM »
NOTE -  I re-uploaded the packages for this, to fix a memory corruption issue that was reported - you need to re-download if you downloaded the release on 2/28 and your "Simulator Statistics" window says your frontend version is 1.8.0.2890 - it should be 1.8.0.2901 (the fixed version).  The patches below can be used to update the full release too.  This fix should finally solve all of the random crashes that have been happening with the OGRE builds.
---

Finally Alpha 8 has been released.  Skyscraper has been packaged up and has also had numerous bugfixes and tweaks since the last build.  The Windows packages now come with the related DirectX DLL, so you no longer have to update DirectX for it to work.  The main downloads are on the website, and I also have patches for people who have previous development builds they want to update.  This release is a major overhaul of the entire program (was technically a port of the whole app), and uses the OGRE graphics engine along with Bullet for collisions/physics, FMOD for sound, Caelum for the dynamic sky, and wxWidgets (like previous releases) for the windowing GUI.  Skyscraper also now generates all of it's own raw 3D geometry, as opposed to Alpha 7 and earlier which relied on Crystal Space's "thingmesh" system.  I've submitted the updates to Sourceforge and updated the screenshots on there and some on the website (and all links and some other content have been updated).  I'll be submitting to other sites in the next few days.

Make sure you read the release notes (readme.txt) - it points out the major changes since Alpha 7, and other important information

Screenshots are below.

Since the last build, the ReOpen elevator parameter has been added, which determines if the elevator should open again if the user presses the same floor button.  A bunch of other fixes (mostly call-button and queue related) have been made, and the queue resets feature has been completely remade.

WOOT! Finally Alpha 8 is released!

Damnit, Cliveden Desmond Wharf is still buggy. It crashes on a font...maybe that's the problem, not the sim.

I posted this in the Feb 25th build topic but I'm going to post it here because I don't think it will get picked up in that topic now.

I've found a bug in ACP mode, if the elevator is on floor 1 and the APC floor is 2 and a down hall call is put in on 3 the elevator will go non-stop to 3 and then go down to floor 2, it does the same thing if it's above the APC floor but with a up hall call (a mirror image).

I also keep getting this crash report

I got this error. Could anyone please help?

If you downloaded the patch, you'll need to download the full release and extract it - some of the files you have are old.

I'll try to fix that ACP issue in the SVN trunk.  With the crash, it's showing that it's crashing at a string operation at a line, but there's nothing related to that in there - currently there's no reason why it's doing that.

I got this error on Mac:

I've reposted the main download and patch - there was a executable link naming issue, and it should be working fine now.

I got this error. Please help

Your video card driver has issues - either update your drivers or try switching to the OpenGL renderer and see if that helps (delete the ogre.cfg file, run Skyscraper and choose opengl).

I got a problem when I'm going up the escalators in the ThyssenKrupp Office Tower.
When I'm going up, I get stuck and it is very annoying. >:(
To be honest, I've lost almost all interest in the elevator community. I still stop by every now and then, but for most intents and purposes, this account isn't used.

Can you make patch that includes the updates since alpha 7?

The best thing to do for that is to extract the Alpha 8 zip file into your Alpha 7 folder (or if using the installer, just install Alpha 8 ), because too much stuff has been changed that a patch would be too big.
